Running dimension 8200 with XP. Whenever I try to burn audio to a CD using HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8160B, the output is muffled and filled with static. This happens with Roxio as well as RealPlayer. People have always told me that I should burn audio at the lowest possible speed, preferably 1x, but the lowest recording speed on this pos is 4x. Is there any way to burn audio with this CD-RW?

It seems that many other forum members have problems getting their 8160B to work at all, and no one says that downloading the latest firmware actually helped their cause. Any suggestions? Hi Lawson, Currently it does not look as though Dell has an updated firmware for this drive, if you purchased the drive through Dell, you must use their firmware to maintain the warranty. For now, try the following to clear up a possible driver issue as well as checking DMA; click on the CD/RW gif in my post and scroll to Section 15, articles 1; 14 & 13; Section 20, article 3; and Section 11, article 2. Also have you tried updating the Roxio software to the latest available for your version?
